Keeping a painting fresh is of primary importance to Terri Ford. Her underpaintings are designed to establish strong value patterns and composition, capturing the essentials in light conditions that can quickly change. She will demonstrate numerous approaches to underpainting, explaining why she chooses one approach over another. She will then demonstrate how she proceeds, using layers of pastel applied with varying pressure and marks to create different conditions and texture. Terri will discuss color choices, application of the pastel in the final stages, and knowing when to stop. Her intention in painting is "to keep it vibrant and fresh, and avoid the pitfalls of overworking." Terri's approach to teaching provides plenty of individual attention to students.
This class will meet at the studio each morning. Terri will give a demonstration and lecture. The class will meet at nearby plein air sites to paint in the afternoon.
